The plaza in the city serves as a rotunda or roundabout, and in the center of it stands a cemented gazebo. This pavilion is unique because it has a spiraling staircase leading to its rooftop. Once you reach the rooftop, you’ll find a statue of a Mangyan standing next to a Tamaraw, a type of dwarf buffalo native to Mindoro Island. The Mangyans are the indigenous people of Mindoro, and the statue is a tribute to their rich culture and history. In addition to the statue, the gazebo rooftop also features Mindoro’s relief sculpture and a monument of Dr. Jose Rizal, the National Hero of the Philippines.
